Did you try using the white primer under the cat yellow to try lightening it up any? Or is the yellow primer the way to go.

The cat yellow in the picture has Rustoleum Auto Gray Sand able primer underneath same for the Valspar cub cadet yellow . I did not try to lighten it . Just sprayed both the same for a comparison .
I will say in my opinion the TSC Valspar is the better color match to the original IH paint color ( 123 ). But you can only tell this in direct sunlight . When I had the parts drying in the garage next to each other they looked extremely close hard to see a difference in color. I also think I am not trying to win any awards but to protect my 40 year old tractor , it cuts grass . The only way anyone could tell if the Old Cat Yellow was not original to this tractor is if a correctly painted Tractor was sitting alongside for a direct comparison . That said ,
My thinking for now since I have both colors and yellow covers so poorly , Primer first, Cat Yellow for my second coat and finish coat will be the TSC Valspar cub cadet yellow.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
