Thank you guys for the input. Seeing as how I’m not very familiar with these, I was curious about the lift. Did they have electric lift with a manual backup?
Electric lift was an option, think you had to delete the manual lift. Electric is a sought after option for collectors (if it works), not necessarily users, they weren't that reliable to begin with. I believe parts availability is very low.

Lift was either/or. The 1x6/7 series was the only series that used it. It was an option except it was standard on the 147. There would have been a switch on the dash (where there is a hole on that one) and a linear actuator both which don’t appear to be there. My 127 didn’t have a lift when I bought it, but a narrow frame manual lift would fit. I don’t know if the electric lift caused modifications that would not allow you to retrofit a manual lift later.

I paid $150 for 2 separate non running 129's They both wound up being good runners. However/ Mine both came with decks. That being said. I don't personally feel like 150$ is a lot of money for a complete tractor less the deck if it is complete other than that. Maybe offer 100$ IMO if I can't get a bean for a complete tractor I may as well hang on to it. Seller may be of same type of opinion.

I would not buy it, find something that is running at least.
Otherwise it is a 69.99 tractor to me.

I wish Long Island had a market place for turn key running cubs for 150$ I guess in other parts of the country you can stretch a dollar a bit farther. The ones I got for 150$ the sellers were asking 250 and 300 I know.. ridiculous.

I too would pass on it. Keep looking and find something running and with everything there. Even if you end up paying a little bit more you will be farther ahead than if you have to start gathering missing bits and pieces.

Maybe I will offer $100. I do really want one, but the more I look at it, the bigger the project I see. I did find a guy selling a deck, but without the lift handle it wouldn’t work very well. That’s IF it runs! It’s a bummer because it’s the only local one I’ve found in a while. Other than a running 147 with a deck, a snowblower and chains for $550. It’s just not in the budget.

Believe me, if you did pay the asking price for it, with that, you may soon have near $500 in it getting it in shape.
One thing will lead to another etc etc etc.
A fluid and filter change will be a nice chunk of change right off the bat.
Then there is always tires, wheel bearings, tie rod ends, rebuilding the steering box, frozen front axle pin and bushings, belts for deck you don't have yet and on and on not to mention the missing/broken lift handle.
The 70 I got this past summer is already in that ball park. There was water running out of the steering column when I got it apart for pete's sake. If this thing has been sitting out in the elements for Lord knows how long then all bets are off.
These things can turn onto a money pit real quick.
Ya just gotta love 'em!!
Good luck!!

It all depends on if you want something to wrench on for a while but then when its done you know the machine in and out OR if you want something ready for work now thats more turn key dont know what the markets like in your area but in Missouri one week ago today i picked up a 127 for $150 and it has a stuck engine and not a single wheel or tire with it Best of luck to you and your search for an old cadet.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
