Cub Cadet 1862 spark plugs
Hello, newbie here from Norther Illinois. Hoping this is the proper way to start a new thread, anyways I'm working on a 1862 with an 18 horse Magnum that I picked up while cruising the countryside. Found on side of road with free sign. Has weak spark and noticed it had 2 different plugs. RS14YC and on other side Autolite 26. Both were gapped @ .045 Online manual says Spark plug #759-3334 and should be gapped at .025. I tried cross referencing the Cub part number and I've gotten 3 different plugs. Can somone point me to the right direction. Thanks

Welcome to OCC,
in out technical section you can down load the service manual FREE. It should answer most of your questions. (RV17YC @ .035) |

After my reply I see the discrepancy you saw.
My info is from the Kohler service manual. For what it's worth, experience says both gaps/plugs will work fine. |

I thought it took RC plugs.... but I was going off memory.
I gap mine to .035" and run it. +/-.005" won't make much difference. If it has weak spark, it likely needs a new magneto. (Ignition "module" according to the parts book.) |

Glad you found that service bulletin and thanks for all replies. Now I can move forward on this. Now I need to be sure that incorrect plug that was on one side did any damage (RS14YC, threadreach is 6.3 mm longer than oem plug) Most likely will need ignition module (weak spark). I tried downloading the service manual in the technical section, there is none for the 1862.

You need the engine sevice manual. It's in the tech section. The chassis manual doesn't cover the engine.

Please bear with me, where is the tech library section? You mean the Cub Cadet parts and service look up? Top of page? Thanks

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
