Engine Rebuilds?
Have a 1000 and 1650 which I see means I have a K241AQS and a K341AQS.
This winter I want to rebuild both. The 1000 has carb issues and the 1650 has carb/ignition/smoking issues. So over the winter I'd like to rebuild/re-tune both. My question is what do I want to not miss on a rebuild on these? I plan to do rings on both. And on the flip side what normally is not required to replace? eg; I have read the crank bearing is usually good. Any links to the best rebuild threads here would be helpful. My search came up with a LOT of articles but didn't see a specific AQS rebuild one. Thanks ! - Bill |

If you want it done right replace the bearing for sure.. I just read this again.. are you talking about the outer bearing? or the journal bearing?

I'm usually rebuilding VW & Porsche engines so I have the shop and machinist covered. And the prices I've seen are nothing compared to a Porsche rebuild

If you're not going to bore them for a bigger piston then just leave them alone. Putting new rings in a worn hole generally doesn't last.

If you have the machining being given for free.. Then the rest is not all that much money. I was talking about machine shop prices.

Bore it
Grind the crank Put in a new piston, rings and rod New valves Grind the seats Replace guides as necessary Check the governor gear, or replace it Address any issues with the governor cross shaft Shim the cam If you aren't planning to bore or grind the crank, don't waste your time. I rebuild the K series and sell them. I know what it takes to rebuild them right. |

Why does everybody think there is a crank bearing? There is no bearing. Aluminum rod on steel crank. Unless you have one cut in the rod.BTDT Mike

IMHO.....if you are going to open up the engine, do it all and right, or leave it alone.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
