PTO Won't Engage LT1018
Hey guys.
I have an LT1018 that my PTO just stopped working on it. It turned on for a split second, then quit. - The mower will not start with PTO engaged. - Belts are intact. - Runs and drives fine. - Wiggling wires does not seem to affect it. - When I was tired of messing with it and went to park it, I tried it once more and worked again for a split second. |

First, welcome to OCC.......

I suspect your PTO Switch is the culprit.

I agree with Roland's response above, but just in case...
Do you have a reverse safety switch? If so, follow the ground wire from the switch to wherever it might be grounded. Mine was grounded to the frame behind one of the rear wheels. I found that my ground had rusted off, and the bare wire would occasionally touch the frame and shut the PTO off. I fixed mine by cutting the wire short and wrapping it in electrical tape, thereby bypassing the reverse safety switch altogether. Or you could do the legal thing and reattach the ground. |

LT1018 blades engages for a few seconds then cuts off
My LT1018 is doing the same thing. I replaced the clutch, pto switch and relay and still doing the same thing. Comes on for a few seconds and then cuts off. After it does that a few times it doesn’t come back on at all.

could also be the seat safety switch

Or any of your safety switches. I had the same thing occur on my zero turn and after replacing all 3 safety switches, everything works great!

Pretty easy to confirm the PTO itself is good. You can disconnect the power lead near pto and supply battery power directly to pto to see if it engages. If it does and it stays engaged then move to switches and safety's. Whenever working with electrical or plumbing. Remember the golden rule. "divide and conquer"

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
