Default History - It passes quickly

While I enjoy my Cub Cadets, they are just one of MANY hobbies that whittle away my time (and wallet). The big thing at this point in my life is cross country trips on one of my motorcycles.

For me, rides are all about the trip, not the destination. So I plan routes that will take me past things of interest to see what is, or what used to be. This year, I though maybe I would try to combine two of my interests and find the factory where my IH Cub Cadets were built.

Granted, I know that IH, as it was when they built Cub Cadets, has been defunct for awhile. But I have tracked down some pretty old locations in my travels. And I was a young kid when the last IH built product rolled off the assembly line in Louisville. I was hoping to at least find the building(s), maybe with a new occupant.

Unfortunately, that is not achievable with the IH Louisville Works. Which is where all the IH Cub and IH Cub Cadet models were made, along with various other larger Farmall models.

Here is a aerial view of the factory location in Louisville in 1997, and the same shot in 1998. You can see where the buildings were already being demolished in the first pic, and completely paved over as part of the airport expansion the following year. Pictures are screenshots from https://apps.lojic.org/lojiconline/ for public use.

That is a shame, thanks for sharing though. I appreciate history and historical places, I restore them all over the country on NPS, USFS and private sites. I’m through Louisville a lot and always wandered where the IH plant was

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
