Default 105 flywheel drive cup assembly removal ?

How is the flywheel drive cup/pully assembly on this k241 removed? Mine was loose where it contacts the fan. I want to take it off to check it, and I also need to replace the grass screen. The motor has been moved forward on the frame rails to get some room to work, but after looking at some parts diagrams it is not clear to me how it is secured. Thanks, Steve.

Remove the nut/bolt on the end of the crankshaft.
The locating pin in the cup may be sheared off, be sure to check for that.
Some had a nut and some had a bolt.
Make sure to torque to the proper spec (IMPORTANT) when reinstalling.
There should be a thick washer under the nut/bolt.
Do not use an impact wrench to tighten, use a torque wrench.
Loose or improperly torqued fasteners will/may lead to sheared flywheel keys

Wanted to be sure the nut Has to come off. How do I prevent the crankshaft from rotating during removal and installation of the nut ? Ok to REMOVE the nut with an 18v cordless impact driver ? Thanks, Steve

Removing with an impact is fine.

If it's loose, just tighten it
If it's loose, I'd remove it and have a look see what's going on behind it.
Use a strap wrench around the flywheel to secure while tightening.
Or maybe a long belt or stout rope looped around it??
Wrap around the base of the flywheel to avoid possible damage to the fins.
While you have it apart would be a great time to locate and highlight the timing marks on the flywheel and static time the engine.

Looks like the only place I can get a strap wrench is the front pulley (generator).

Assuming your 105 has the standard Kohler K241, you could take the blower cover off to access and lock down the flywheel.
But if you're just removing the cup, you can use the electric impact to remove the nut/bolt whatever you have.
Personally, I have always used an electric impact to put them on also, with never a problem.
But that's my choice, I'm not advising you what to do.

Default 105 flywheel drive cup removal

Hadn’t planned on removing the tins (I lose stuff),but since a head gasket is looong overdue, I think I will. I removed the nut from the crankshaft with a cordless impact driver but haven’t been able to find the “thick washer”mentioned in this post. The cup is now loose, but wont come off. I guess the washer will come off when the cup comes off. Considering using a harmonic balancer puller, or some other sort of puller to get it off. Fingers crossed. Thanks again, Steve.

You will have to remove the flywheel shroud to remove the flywheel.
Your puller will work just fine for that as the flywheel is tapped for the bolts.
If the drive cup is loose it will come off easily.
The cup is aluminum and the locating pin is steel
So go easy on the 1/4" bolts that attach the drive coupling to the cup

The thick washer should be under the bolt/nut whichever your engine has.
