Lt1045
A LT1045 with an SV600-0009 KOHLER engine. Grandson tells me that it starts just fine, but after mowing anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes the engine starts missing and no power. Shut off the PTO and go to idle it runs smooth, try to give it more throttle and it will not take it wants to die. Before I get into this problem, I would some ideas/advice on what may be happening. Mfg date 6-2006.

I would look at a Fuel Delivery or Gas Tank venting problem. Take the Gas Cap off and see if that makes it runs better.

I drilled a hole, right thru the center of the gas cap, that should take off any venting problem. Mowed for 1/2 hr, it starts popping like it was misfiring. Move the throttle to idle no problem waiting a couple of minutes and went to wide-open throttle ran smooth. Made half a lap and it started doing the same thing. I did the idle and wide open bit and went to the shop. I am totally confused about what's going on. Any ideas/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like lack of flo'
( not Flo from progressive) but fuel flo' At higher engine speeds you are possibly starving for fuel and your idle break helps it catch up. Start by checking flo' right at carb. if good, then it possibly has an accumulation of "stuff" in the carb. that needs to be cleaned out. Also if it has a fuel filter it needs to be addressed. Drilling a hole in the gas cap was a bad idea as it can allow fuel to splash out. Also it pisses off the enviro people as your letting "fumes" escape. if ewe waz in Kalifornea, it would cause Cancer, lucky ewe is in Indiana. |

Had JD that did something similar, definitely fuel related. In my case it was gunk in the fuel tank that would slow the flow. The prior owner spent almost $1,000 at the mechanic who never fixed it, so I got it for a song.
Could be a gunk restriction, could be a float problem, could be a semi-plugged filter or weak fuel pump (if'n it has one), could be a sticky valve that only sticks when hot. Start with fuel delivery and work your way down the list. You know, what George said

Figured out the problem. Seems somebody decided to add little plastic beads to the fuel tank. I and my grandson have come to a conclusion that it had to be the great-granddaughter she is a little hellion and will try anything to get back at her parents when she does not get her way. Therefore they must have been blocking the pickups in the tank. Pull the tank flushed it out and so far she is running fine.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
