1711 Drives Really Fast
Hey everyone. I have a new to me 1711 and it is my first 82 series tractor. I've finally got it running and just about ready to mow but this thing is too fast (ground speed).
Just as a rough estimate, I'd say it is 50% faster than my 1641. Does anyone know what could have been done to make it run like this? All I can think is something in the hydro system has been played with but I don't really know what to look for. Thanks in advance. Other than that, I do like the tractor and I'm planning on working it a bit. |

First, welcome to OCC...........
My guess would be, that the Hydro "Linkage" is out of adjustment. Go to our Technical Library Section, and lookup the Chassis Service Manual for the 82 Series Tractors, and focus on the Sundstrand Hydro Section.

Is the 1641 the only other hydrostat Cub you have owned? 82 series are Very Fast tractors when they are set correctly, I wouldn't rule out that perhaps the 1641 is slower and the 1711 is "right". I think that the speed of both should be about the same, but the 1641 does use a Hydro Gear hydrostat, while the 1711 uses the Sundstrand unit that is the "default" unit on Cubs for nearly the entire first 4 decades of hydrostatic Cub Cadets.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
