Default The 1535 IS REAL!!

I'm sure some of the more scholarly members on here have heard of the Cub Cadet 1535, the gear drive Cyclops so rare that I believed that none of them were even made. Well I have one right in front of me. I work in the family dumpster business my dad started, and he called me this morning to tell me I needed to check one of the 30 yards in the yard because it had a "1035 or something" in it. I thought it would just be one of the newer light lawn tractors, but as I just walked up to the box I saw the old "Built With Pride In America" sticker and peered over to see an honest to goodness Cyclops with a 15 horse Magnum, 3 speed, and creeper with a white 46GT. It looks very straight. Consider me excited.

The 1535 is a 1990-1991 Gear Drive tractor. Same tractor in a HydroStatic version is the 1541.

I've heard of them from brochures before, but it's my understanding that it's a very low volume machine. Just spent some quality time removing it from the dumpster and then beginning the classic Kohler Magnum Mouse Nest Removal Mod.

I have one. I've heard they didn't make too many of them.

No, not many at all. I'll have to put some pictures up of the extraction process from the dumpster. Pretty convenient way to come across one.

Very lucky find! That's a keeper. I found one a couple years ago and love it. Just a heads up the sticker on mine said 15hp but the papers and tag identified it as an 18hp. My understanding is they were really 18 but "sticker rated" 15hp. Have fun with it

Default Picture time

Here we go. These pics are all from the day I found the tractor in the dumpster, currently the 1535 is just about ready to try to start. First shot is the tractor in the dumpster as I saw it, next is me in the old Pete hooking to the box, I pulled it and dropped it over by our pit. I then used the forklift and pulled a bunch of appliances and jubk out of the back of the dumpster, where I had the tractor exposed. Pulled it out with a chain and towed it all the way to the shop. As you can see, the hood was found, but the grill was unceremoniously shattered later. Oh well. It's not the sealed beam headlight type anyway.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
