My aunt couldn’t get her tractor to start and instead of fixing it she decided it was time for a new one. She said if I want it come and get it, otherwise she was going to roll it to the bottom of the driveway and put a free sign on it. Of course I couldn’t say no to a free tractor. I charged the battery and put air in the one flat tire, then drove it off the trailer and cut my front yard. Runs good and seems to cut fine. I’ll wash it and service it, then sell it.

And take dear auntie to dinner, or give her a gift card!
If we was closer,
I would take her to dinner, she sounds like a wonderful person.

Sell it back to your Aunt!

When I was little....my brothers and I would walk thru the neighborhood when junk day was coming up. We bring back lawnmowers people were throwing out, fix them up and put them out for sale on the front lawn. We have had several people buy back the their old lawn mowers.

Dinner or gift card, as already suggested, would certainly be in order!! I'm diggin' the treads on the rears of that cub. Look very neat!

I've given tractors to, or sold tractors at a loss, to friends and relatives who take for granted that they just got a tractor that came with a lifetime warranty on parts, labor, and maintenance.
My advice, give the aunt a token of gratitude, but don't give her the tractor back or she will own you for life. (old people are smarter than you think)

The Good: Belts are less expensive and (usually) easier to replace than drive shafts and their couplings.
The Bad: You have to do it about 10 times more often.
Your call.

Too bad your not closer. I'm looking for one with a 38" deck. It's the only size that will store in my shed otherwise I will have to walk around it all winter in my shop.

I offered to pay her for it, she wouldn’t take anything. Just wanted it out of her yard. We settled on free maintenance on her new tractor.

She has a shiny new Craftsman with a 48” deck now, she won’t want this back.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
