Default I'm back

Hello gents, it has been a while since I have been on here. A few years back I had to rid myself of all my Cubs and parts. I was able to keep a "O" frame and trans. I am finally getting around to getting her back together. I am a lil rusty on navigation through the forum. But any help on engine,K???. I have an O engine, just need carb and air filter. Also looking for the name of that 4x4 black box, and full wire harness. I do have the black box and a wire harness. But both look to be a lil rough. I am just a lil outta touch with terms and knowledge at this point. So, I guess the important one first is engine. I believe it is a proper 7 or 8 hp engine for it. So what k model would that be? I am all over the place sorry and thanks in advance.

Welcome back.

The OEM engine for the Cub Cadet Original was a Kohler K161 (7HP). Later the K161 was updated replaced with the Kohler K181 (8HP). So, either engine is acceptable for the Original.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
