UPDATE----

In further investigation, the 1862 had two manufacturing runs.
* S/N - 800,000 - 821,059 (prod #1)
* S/N - 821,060 - 836,000 (prod #2)

The Diode was used only in Prod #2.

Cub Cadet's Master Wiring Diagrams, only depicts the wiring diagram for Prod #1. (another one of Cub Cadet's anomalies)

Since you did not mention the serial number of your tractor, the information I supplied was based on the Cub Cadet data I had on hand. I'll have to find the diagram for Prod Run#2.

Thanks for all the input there folks. Spent the afternoon learning about
Diodes, everyday is a new adventure. After learning that aagtich' 1864
had this diode I started leaning towards it being factory. Like Roland
I could not find it anywhere in the diagrams however. SN# on the tractor
is 82400 so that makes it run # 2. no diagram apparently, thanks Roland.

Can a person put 12 volts direct to this system to check all these
indicators and safeties etc ? Or do you have to have Solenoid, voltage
sensor and all the other parts wired up? Thanks again

Ken

In simplest terms, a diode is a one-way valve that only allows flow in one direction. If you know plumbing, it's like a check valve. if you don't know plumbing, it's like a one-way street (with suitable constant enforcement, naturally). As indicated, it is usually used to stop back-flow on a sensitive circuit.

thanks for the help.

I have a picture of the 1862 wiring diagram and it shows the diode on the no. 1 light. Looks like there could be a feedback problem without the diode.

Yet more headaches.

Both the 1440 and the second generation 1862 use the 759-3675 Diode, and use the 725-3185 Indicator Harness.

Here is the difference in the Cub Cadet Wiring Diagrams.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
