I second the motion. We need a "like" or "thank" button.

Got some more done on the 3240 over the last few weeks. Here is what the splined hubs look like on the 3000 series machines.
DSCN1429.jpg DSCN1430.jpg

The 3240 has a cast iron rear that has bearings and seals on the axle tubes and not dry roller bearings like the ones with the aluminum rears. I had both axle seals leaking and needed to replace them. They take the same seal as the cyclops rears do (National 474256). Make sure that you check the bolts that hold the rear to the frame. This tractor had one side that was a little loose.

Here is how the cast rears are split. I have not opened one up yet and I hope I don't need to anytime soon.

Cleaned everything up, put on a new Wix 51410 and filled the rear with oil....crossed my fingers for no leaks.

I washed all the tins, buffed and waxed everything and put it back together. I found a set of 40th Anniversary side panel decals that another member had made for his and he is going to send me a pair to put on.

I need to straighten that front bumper.

Then there is the mower deck. I rebuilt all 3 spindles with new bearings and seals and was going to slap this under the tractor but I just can't do that. Good old Cub Cadet powder coating.

Out comes Mr. Impact wrench and hello Mr. Sandblaster this weekend.

Well, I'm finally back on this project and it was a nice day yesterday so I dug the deck back out to clean it up. I kinda got carried away and took it down to bare metal with paint stripper and a 3M scotchpad on a 4" grinder.

DSCN1578.jpg DSCN1590.jpg

I cleaned the underside up with a wire wheel and hit it with Loctite rust converter. My buddy took the shell to work today to paint it up in his spray booth. I hope I can match his paint color.

After all the hard work I went for a joy ride.

I had a member from another site send me a set of side panel decals he had made for his 3240. He did a nice job on the copy.

Here is another thing I like about the 3K machines.

Todd

Last pic is the best. I'm sitting here with a Scotch on the rocks after fighting with a 2182 leaking water pump. Here's to Ya Buddy.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
