Bolts
Hello.
Has anyone had all four engine bolts fall out on them. It happened to me on my LTX-1042. The bolts that hold the engine (Kohler) to the frame. My tractor is about five years old. I found the part number for the bolts so I will pick some up and install lock washers and Loctite on them. Seems unacceptable that this would happen. |

one time, and all 4 of the engine mounting bolts were MIA. vibration is a weird thing. Check the threads in the block if it is that type of mounting. |

In the newer stuff they normally have bigger self tappers that appear to gunned into non threaded holes during assembly which are an aluminum base. There’s a good chance these holes/threads are damaged. Inspect closely before repair

I just noticed one is missing on my LTX1040 (Kohler Engine). I tried 3/8 & 5/16 bolts and thread chasers. Are these metric M8 or M10? When I find a fastener, just use a torque spec for into Aluminum? I'll use a lock washer too. Kohler & Cub service manuals have zip on engine mounting bolts. For now, I guess I'll go remove one of the others and see if I can at least figure out the thread type.

I've seen 1 or 2 missing and 2 lose.
Usually with 1 or 2 missing the thing vibrates so bad it's unusable. With 3 gone and 1 lose in surprised the thing would even move. I've always just run 3/8-16 bolts in any time i find one missing with Briggs and kohlers. Kawasaki generally uses a 8mm bolts.

The Parts Manual specifies 3/8-16 x 1"

I went to my local Fastenal and bought a package of 2 thread cutting bolts in 3/8 x 1. Would have got 1 1/4" too but they were out. For some reason, before I tried those I gave a standard 3/8-16 another try and it bit and went in. Mowed my almost an acre and it is holding so far. Only reason I can think of leading to it going in this time is that the clearance hole in the frame is rather small and somehow all was lined up well enough. Not sure how I decided 3/8-16 was it. I was able to slide a longer bolt all the way in, but not sure if it was 1/4-20 or 5/16-16. Oh well, solved for now.

I have never seen all bolts come out. Could you not tell something was wrong when operating it ? I would think it would rattle the fillings out of your teeth.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
