Default Cub Cadet 1210 questions

Does the Cub Cadet 1210 have a cast iron rear axle and hydro unit like my 127 or one made of aluminum? If it is the aluminum one is it durable?

Now I am fairly new to the cub cadet line, but I have a 1210 and mine has an aluminum rear end. That being said, I believe that the 1210 started with a cast iron rear, then ended production with an aluminum one. As for the durability, I have read that the aluminum rear end is durable enough. I guess it all depends on what you plan on doing with it. But i will let some older more knowledgeable guys confirm this all.

The 1210 was built by CCC/MTD. It never had a Cast Iron rear end.

I'm not positive it is a 1210 because the paint and decals are gone or faded. The owner is going to send me a photo of the rear axle this evening. I'm gonna try to post the 2 photos I have, perhaps someone can give a positive id.

I don't see a gear shift so it's not a 1050 or 1204. Manual lift deck and single cylinder engine almost guarantees it's a 1210.

It's aluminum, but if you really wanted cast iron you could easily swap it with one that has external brakes, maybe even one with internal brakes too.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
