Default New member and a new 1650 owner

Hello,

I was shocked to find a cub forum. Cool! Hello I am Nathan, 25 and live in Bradford County PA.

I just bought a Cub IH 1650. It just arrived off the flatbed. It's a little rough and I know I paid more then what I should have for $1000. But the dealer would not go any lower. I guess if you really want it you'll buy it. It did come with the factory plow and three blade mower deck. It still runs and I was just out driving it around. I think it needs an oil change as when I went to full throttle a bit of white smoke was coming out the exhaust. I will need to buy the hitch as there is nothing there. The Hydraulics work fine. I plan on fixing it up some. I love the older mowers and always wanted one with good size rear tires. This has the garden tread tires and are brand new.

I have been 10 years without a rider. My parents divorced and there went my Farmall H.

Anyhoo gotta go. But plan to ask for help with my project.

Thanks guys,

This is a cool place!

I bought a sandblaster today. I still want to be able to drive it so was wondering what parts I could probably fix up first without taring it apart and making it unusable? I was thinking of making the mower deck new again. I dont have a owners manual yet but was wondering what size mower deck that is?

Never sandblasted before. The guy suggested I take sand box sand and strain it through a window screen to remove any sea shells. Rather then paying $25 for the "brand" sand.


I would also like to find a hitch. I am not sure what it all looks like. I saw one on ebay for $125. Thought that was a bit much and not sure if everything is there that is needed.

Also what kind of attachments can I use? How can I decifer one brand attachment to another? Or are other brand mower hitches simular/same?

Thanks for any help. Looking forward to learn as much as I can. I am a proud poppa but know its used and sooner or later something will go on it.

Welcome Nathan! I think you are now on one of the best forums on the web for Cub Cadets.Be advised...as a new owner of a vintage Cub Cadet garden tractor will/can be addicting! I also think you live in a state that has a lot of Cub Cadet collectors/users,you need to find a local collector so they may take you "under their wing" to lead you on your way with your new find. But we will try to help you along your way.Sounds like you have big plans to take your 1650 further for restoration and lawn&garden attachments and their chores.I suggest you buy (or borrow) Kenneth Updike's hard back book...Original Farmall Cub and Cub Cadet to get you started,learn the tractors history and models built.Also be advised on the sand blasting:beach/play sand retains moisture and will clog...I use glass media,less dust and no clogs. 50# sack can be bought for $10 or so at your local TSC (Tractor Supply).

It should be a 50 inch deck. Is there a tag? It should be on the left side of the deck.
