Big stuff like the frame, dash tower hood and such will be done with my sand blaster. The fuel tank I used the bench grinder with a wire brush, then the DA. Bolts I use the bench grinder wire wheel to get most of the crud off, then soak them for a day or so in a solution of Simple Green with some lacquer fluid mixed in.
The Green cleans off the oil and grease, while the lacquer loosens up the paint. Then I wire wheel again, but with a medium wheel. Like on the housing, I clean the grease and crud with the Green, then I'll use a hand held wire wheel on a drill and a DA, where I can. I don't strip the paint where it's good, just feather it into the bare metal spots.

Had a idea today......and thought about making a battery hold down seeing they are N/A anymore.
Had some round stock around the shop. So I cut it to two feet in length and fired up the torch. Took a 3/8 bolt and bolted it to a board to make the round ends. Then welded the ends together in the middle. Pretty close to the original, except not rusted in two
Turned out pretty good

Put a new set of seals in today and got the trans ready for primer. Installed a new shifter gasket and the "IH" bolts.
Little by little, it's going together. Another six months should be a roller

Todd,
That battery hold down bracket looks like factory. Tank and clean up work looks good too. Zinc plated bolts will pop against the yeller! Love it when projects start to go back together.
Hope things are good!
Regards,
Chris

Did a little on the original today. Installed a new reduction housing gasket and housing. Got the break parts cleaned up.
Installed the right axle and tube. I made a couple axle housing guides out of 3/8 bolts with the head cut off to help me hold everything while I'm putting in the bolts.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
