Blades disengage/engine & engine cutoff

I have a XT1 with the 50 inch deck. Since the summer started, the blades would disengage with no rhyme or reason. Usually, when the blades would disengage, the best way to get them to come back on would be to push the blades knob back down, reverse briefly, and pull the knob back up. This would work essentially every time. I have an acre and this would happen about 6 - 8 times during the job. Sometimes the blades would just simply disengage and engage for a brief second without going through the routine.

Last weekend, I noticed the engine begging to cut out, but coming back to life right before it fully shut down. This weekend, this became more prolific with the engine exhibiting this several times until it finally cut off completely. I could not get it to restart.

I'm thinking this might be the ignition switch, but not sure. I'm hoping some here, with more experience with this mower might direct me to the likely source of the problem.

When you say you "could not get it to restart" do you mean it would crank as normal but just not fire, or do you mean you turned the key to start and no cranking at all??

No power, as if the battery was dead. However, the battery shows good voltage.

Am wondering about a safety switch going in and out. Like a seat

I was wondering the same as well. I messed with it and it didn’t seem to have an effect, but that doesn’t mean that isn’t it.

Before you get too deep into it, check that the fuse is not blown, or at least that it is making good contact in the fuse holder.

If the PTO is engaged while this happens, It will not restart until you disengage the PTO again. Has this ever happened without PTO engaged? Or only with PTO engaged? I am also thinking safety switch.
