48" deck baffle
I have a mower deck off of a 129 that doesn't have any baffles. Should it? Deck is a 483-U-1111. If it needs one, does anybody know where I could find one, or a part number.

All of those style decks had baffles. if yours are missing and the deck is still good the best thing to do is bend up some steel and weld in one you fab.

Heres a link to a thread an OCC member posted of his 48" deck rebuild. Has pictures of the baffles so you can see what it should look like

The 1963 to 1968 decks have a 2 piece baffle. They are NLA. 1968 to 1971 have a 3 piece baffle. The outer sections are available at about $100.00 each. The center is NLA. 1971 to 1973 have no baffle. This is according to the parts look up.

I can see the welds where the baffles were. My question now is how wide should the steel be, if I have to try and fabricate them. And, does someone have a template?

1/8" X 1.75 or 2" flat stock is more than ample. If i were doing this I would just run through slip roll until I had a close radius to the old weld marks. It doesn't need to be real precise as long as the blades have clearance. If you don't have a slip roll you could find something solid with a similar radius to bend it around.

Thank you, you guys are super! I don't have a slip roll, but I'll figure something out. One more question, are these baffles one piece, or are they three separate
pieces? SF

I don't really recall, Been awhile since I had one with original baffles in it I would make it in 3 pieces though and finish by welding where the meet together with a small opposite radius.

I was thinking that would be the easiest. Thanks for the conformation.

The baffles are not welded in. The have little 90 degree brackets welded to them and they are bolted (1/4" I believe) to the deck. What you are assuming is weld is probably the rusted remains of the bolt.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
