The motor in it is only 1/2 hp and 1725 rpm, so it will probably just get replaced by a 1/2 or 3/4 hp single-phase 1725 rpm motor. I know we have a lot of those around. A VFD is another possibility for running the motor, but I think it makes more sense to just swap it out at this point.

Yes,
that small of a motor, way more cost effective/ trouble free to just swap it out.

Congrats Matt! I wasn't able to get completely into metal fabricating as much as I would have liked to. But luckily, I have a good friend who owns a machine shop. He takes good care of my needs, and occasionally, lets me get some hands on practice. I'm sure we'll be seeing some great things here from your new lathe.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
