I run regular fuel in it with a little added sea foam because the gas is a little old.
I wouldn't run sea foam in your Cub Cadet. I loose power or the engine will die when I use sea foam.

I don't remember when Cub Cadet change the tooth count in the 2nd gear. It did happen around serial number 89600 which was latter part of 1964. Main reason they made the change was owners were breaking 2nd gear if it was a 16 tooth count.

Dvogtvpe suggestion works (timing change).

Looking at the club rules for the stock garden tractor class the head, cam valves rod and piston must be factory and unmodified. You can use a steel flywheel which is a smart thing to do. The rules say you must use the same brand carb that came with the tractor. There is a little room for fine tuning. There is nothing in the rules about modifing the ingition system.

along with the timing change I would find a high compression head. Your 100 may have one on it. You can go to the tech area in Only Cub Cadets to see what they look like (http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=5689).

I would buy a Bosch blue coil and use an 8 mm sparkplug wire. Next thing I would do is index the sparkplug so you get the best flame travel. Here is an article about sparkplug indexing: http://greensboring.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=14138
I would experment with different brands of sparkplugs to see which one your Kohler likes the best.

Only run fresh fuel in you puller (less than 2-3 weeks old).

There are things you can do to your starter-generator system so it has less pull on your engine. Two of the most popular ones are the ring gear starter system and a remote starter system . I know one person who has modified his front pulley so he can wrap a rope around the front pulley on the engine and gives the rope a tug.

I would run a smaller diameter (no more than 1 1/4 inch) exhaust pipe.

These are things I would try. I'm sure Dvogtvpe has a few more tips.

You widen your points gap. But the only true way to set them is with a degree wheel.

Narrow Frame Cub Cadets with the serial number 96765 and below have the 16 tooth 2nd gear. Serial number 96766 to the end of narrow frames had the 19 tooth 2nd gear. All wide frames have a 17 tooth 2nd gear.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
