If you paid money for the used muffler and the integrity other than the crack is good, Why not just weld up the crack? I know its pretty thin metal but if its not rotten you should be able to mig weld or braze it.
If you don't like that idea buy a new one. I see your looking for another tractor and willing to spend 300$ on one with a bad or no engine. Put your money into the one ya got and make it a good one.

What did you assume, I would put a wheelhorse muffler in or something?
Well you did say you was going to put Aluminum tape on it to seal it..I heard Flex Steel will work on anything.... Try that... |

The exhaust's integrity is all good, I need to weld a piece of pipe on to fix the inlet of the exhaust as one of the tabs is completely broken off. It doesn't leak from any part other than where it goes over the elbow. Once I get that and the baffle fixed, hopefully everything will go together and line up. I'm mainly trying to make a temporary seal to pull the tractor out from behind a bale, which would've ended badly with the old muffler. I think to hold the baffle together I'll just bolt the muffler box on.
Edit: Looking at the information, the Aluminum tape can withstand up to ~375 or 600 degrees, so it looks like it can easily withstand the muffler heat. |

You keep talking about moving this thing out from behind this bale. Start the dang thing up and move it. If it won't run, push it. It will move. If you can't push it, use one of your other tractors to pull it. It will run without a muffler. It's not going to spit a ball of fire out of it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
