I had a few extra minutes today so I pulled the covers off the deck then removed it from the tractor. PO said they replaced the PTO 3 years ago. Said it was cutting out in tall grass. They got fed up and sold it.....to me.
The deck belt was twisted inside out and above the pulley grove on left side. No rust holes in deck. Unfortunately both outside bearing cup holes are twisted causing the deck to be out of level. The blade tips are off nearly a half an inch in the center. The theory on the PTO was troubling to follow. I finally discovered a possible problem. Look at the double pulley. The PO told me the pulley was new along with center spindle last year. The pulley is upside down. The smaller diameter should be on the bottom!!! Both belts seemed nearly new but both them have issues and just may be junk. Not sure if the PO did their own wrenching or if someone else screwed up the pulley placement. Leads me suspect the PTO clutch is probably fine. The engine to deck belt would not get tight enough on that smaller pulley. They said it would "cut out in tall grass after a while." However, the deck is not as nice as I had hope. There are stress cracks in the usual spots. Gonna have to trade labor with my brother for some welding help. Oh, and as always the dang idler pulley bearing is shot. Wish that was replaceable.

Old OCC trick, drill out the rivets in the pulley, put in a new bearing, and bolt back together with small bolts or rivet like original. Never done it yet, just learned of it here a looong time ago.

Heck of a good deal there Steve and it looks nice too.
Yes, the bearings are easy to do. As Sam said, they are just a 6203 double sealed bearing with a spacer. DSCN1729.jpg DSCN1738.jpg I picked up a sleeve of these bearings and so far they have worked great. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Qty-10-6203...sAAOSwQoFWQNr4

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
