Default QA-42A Issues

Hi folks. Reading through these threads has led me to believe that this is home to the most knowledgeable Cub Cadet owners on the planet. Hopefully you can lead me to a solution for my dilemma. It has two parts:
Firstly, I decided to clean up my snow thrower this year and as part of that process, I cleaned and oiled the threads on the belt adjustment lever on the left side. Since doing that, I went through three belts (it didn't help that it was almost two feet of heavy snow). Each time the belt tension slackened and burned off the first two belts. Since they were old, used stock in my basement and beginning to fray, I went out and purchased a kevlar belt which lasted for maybe an hour before the same thing happened. The problem is that I cannot get the tensioning screw to maintain the proper tension. I looked at countless sites to figure out how to fix this. Some maintain that the four bolts on the plate assembly have to be tightened after the tension is set but with the little spacers, the plates still slide up and down. I've only been able to solve the tension problem by removing the spacers and then tightening up the carriage bolts so the two plates are securely pressed against each other. But that's not the proper solution as they wouldn't have put the spacers in there in the first place unless they were necessary. I've seen a reference to a clip that will not allow the adjustment bolt to turn out. Is that the solution? Rig up something to prevent it from turning?
My second issue is that the blower won't lift high enough on the right side (where the lift bar attaches). The left side moves up high enough but somehow the right side sags. I would've thought that the right side would be higher (being directly connected to the lift bar) and the left side might sag but no. After reading some other posts I've checked the tire pressure in all tires and it is as per spec. I checked the cam limiter thingy by the right foot platform but it is not coming into contact with anything. Any ideas?

Yes, there is supposed to be a locking tab on the adjustment screw. I'm not where I can post a pic. Maybe someone else can. If not, later I will.

On the lift: perhaps something is bent on the blower lift frame. Could also be a mount issue. Look everything over good. Post pics of the lift if you can find the issue. We can likely see the problem.

I had the same problem. Positioned the handle vertical, put two wraps of wire around the top part, hooked the wire behind the mounting bracket, problem solved.

To stop the adjuster from backing off you can do what member finsruskw did.

The one labelled 1 in this photo, I believe.

Mine doesn't lift entirely evenly, but it definitely goes up and down enough on both sides.

Here's a video of my QA-36B lifting on my 782 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5J_mTUFJiE

Do you have a QA-36/42 or a QA-36A/42A? The 36A/42A have additional lift linkages, and it's a slightly different mechanism because of that.

There it is. I hadn't gotten around to finding a pic yet.

The OP says on the title of the first post it is a QA42A.

Whoops. For some reason I thought this was a post in the QA-42 issues thread!

Snowthrowers are apparently popular this time of year for some reason...

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
