Default Deck out of adjustment HDS 2145

I have a 2145 and it mows like crap. I thought the blades were dull so I bought a set of CC mulching blades and it didn't change anything. It still mows like crap. It seems that the right side mows higher than the left. I have looked and looked and I don't see any adjustment on the deck. There is an adjustment on the deck wheels but that's about useless. I would love to get rid of it but my wife won't let me. Its the only one in my collection that she will use. Every time she mows I have to go back over it with the 128 or which ever Wheel Horse I am using. Am I missing something on the adjustment? Any thoughts? Thanks Kevin

If the deck is lifting unevenly, make sure the lift linkage isn't broken somewhere...the 2000 series are notorious for this.

How far off is it? And to what side does it lean? The only thing I've seen go on the 2000 Series are the welds on the lift arm that runs horizontally across the rear of the tractor. This causes the lift to not work at all, or be very limited in its lifting range of motion. Lift linkage is decent, actually, and since that's not a ground-following deck, most likely the linkage hasn't been banged to Hades and back.

Adjusting the deck is easy. There's a ferrule to adjust the side-to-side spec, and then the quick attach U-bar up front has threaded ends that you can use to adjust the front-to-back spec. You should have a slight front rake for best cutting. If you want more detailed instructions, let me know

I see a lot of these tractors in the shop for maintenance, and we hardly ever see any problems with the deck lift system. They have to be really abused for the lift linkage to bend or break.

Thanks for the info I will look a lot closer on the adjustment. I don't know why it would be out of adjustment. It has not hit anything and the lift seems to work smoothly. While I have your attention...whats up with the cruise lever it will not stay where you put it so it seems to be useless. Thanks Kevin

While you're messing with the deck - it may be good practice to learn to take the deck off (they're very easy - 5 mins). If you do that, you'll have better access to the cruise control lever that's under the cowl. It basically just locks the forward lever linkage in place via a cam lever with some teeth on it. Once you get under there, you'll see what I'm talking about. My bet is that the lever on the dash has become separated from the rest of the assembly.

The cruise lever is on the RH fender. I have had the deck off multi times and you are right 5 min off and about 30 mins back on I get aggravated at every time I go to put it back on. It hooks very easy in the front and I can get one rear pin in but then the other side seems to be a B*tch. Then again may be that's why it mows like crap. This thing is not near as simple as my 128 to work on. I will check it out. Thanks again for everyones input. If I can't get figured out, it will be for sale and the wife will have to get used to it or she can go with it. LOL

The key to getting the deck back on it to lift it up from a little past the middle of the deck, towards the front of the tractor. This allows the deck to come up in the front and pivot a little to meet the deck hanger in the rear. Took me a few tries too

Your cruise lever is on the fender? Hmm....I'll check when I'm at work and see if we have a unit there like that. Most of the ones I've encountered have it on the lower dash cowl.

And if you decide to sell it, you know who to call. I think these tractors are great, but I'm in a minority group on this particular site

Hello, Can you say more about the weld breaking on the lift arm? I just experienced this and cannot find where the weld is? I'm not a welder so will have to take it in. How big of a deal is this fix? 2145 tractor with Onnen motor. Thanks

Download a copy of the manual from the Cub site , that will answer and explain all the things you need to fix
The adjustment ferrule for deck levelling is on the rear right hand side of deck

Default Mower deck issues

I have one of these HDS 2145, and it also cut very unevenly a few years ago. I spent a lot of time playing with the height adjustment, but that is not what the problem was. The problem was the two blades did not meet tip to tip at the middle, one was lower than the other. Turns out the mounting surface for one of the spindles on the deck was not “flat”, or parallel to the ground. For some reason the spindle was tilted inward. Maybe from the belt tension. I tried to bend it back, and even pounded on it. Didn’t make a difference. What I ended up doing was move the washers on two of the three spindle mounting bolts from above the spindle to between the spindle and the deck. This “tipped” the spindle back to level with ground. It cuts good now. So, bottom line, look at the deck from underneath and check the two blades. They should be parallel to each other. Mine weren’t.
