Question Cub 1405

New here....1st post. I have an Lt1045 that I bought new from my local Case dealer. Just acquired a Cub 1405 1990 - 1991 series. I'm sure these aren't collectable but I liked the looks. Not seeing much on this model. Whats the good / bad with the 1405? It has the kohler command 14 engine...38in deck and the standard 5 speed gearbox. Thanks.

As strictly a Lawn Tractor, they are fine. They are not designed, nor capable beyond that. They were designed for 10 years of residential service, then throw away. Weak link is belt drive, and the transaxle. They have a great deal of resemblance to the 82 series Garden Tractors, but few parts interchange.

And trust me the resemblance is only visual to an 82 series.
Apples to oranges comparison as far as reliability and longevity.
They were built to meet customer demand.
A lot of people want an inexpensive lawnmower, they provide that.
Sort of like a sedan to go to work/store, not a truck to haul/tow things.
Both have a place and fill a need.

What series does the 1405 belong to? Im impressed that after 31 years....this 1405 still looks good...especially if they were throw away models. The resemblance to the 82 series looks is what attracted me.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
