Oops!!!
While trying do diagnose a running issue on my 2185, I broke a valve cover bolt. Got around to removing the broken portion of the boys and.... Oops. I broke the bolt hole with the bolt extractor I was using. I ordered JB Weld extreme high temp, because it's on the exhaust side and will see high temps constantly.
If the JB Weld doesn't work, does anyone else have an idea for a fix? I can't nut and bolt it without Dremel-ing into the head casting itself. Just trying to get a game plan in place. I do have the broken off piece still, but not too sure if it's gonna be weld able. |

The only good fix is a replacement head.
But in the mean time, I would try the JB Weld. I would include a stud instead of the bolt, and glue it in there too. Even better, if you can use a bolt with the head down, so that it hangs under the broken area (hard to describe at 7:20 AM). You may have to grind part of the bolt head or the head casting for a good fit. Use a fully-threaded bolt. |

broke valve cover bolt
if it was mine i would weld a stud in place and use a nut and washer on top if it holds great if you have to replace the head then no harm no foul

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
