Cub 982
I'm trying to figure out which engine I have in my 982 I just bought. It's supposed to have a 19.9 hp B48G Onan. However the tag on the shroud says B43G which is 18 hp. The serial number on the tag does not match the serial number stamped on the engine block. I assume somebody put a different shroud on it. Maybe a different engine too. The air cleaner is from a P218G and doesn't even fit. Is there a place where I could find out what I have by matching the serial # from the block? Thanks

chasing info on Onans can be a bit sketchy somedays. I gave one of the online Onan dealers all my info and he couldn't come up with an air filter, go figure. Whats the chance you are reading the tag wrong, mine isn't stamped the best but it reads B48G-GA019.97370B. The way I understand it the B48G is the model, GA019.9 is the HP and the 7370B is the spec. Recheck your numbers and give one of the online Onan dealers a call and see if they can tell you if air shrouds will interchange between the 2 models---I haven't been able to locate ANY online parts books for my Onan.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
