electrical short
I have a 1999 model 2165 16 horse Briggs & Stratton. I can't seem to find the short. It blows the fuse that has a red wire to the ignition switch and a red wire to the battery. I have replaced the ignition switch and the starter. Could it be the solenoid?

When is it blowing the fuse? That wire feeds power to everything when the tractor is running or is it when you are cranking it?

Sounds like a short in the wire some place touching the chassis. Have you checked the wire runs yet?

I have a 2186 that was blowing a fuse during the start as I was passing the position on the switch for the lights. One of the wires had a bare spot that was grounding on metal. It took me a little bit of wire tracking to find it, but it solved the problem.

[QUOTE=dfreed;82980]I have a 2186 that was blowing a fuse during the start as I was passing the position on the switch for the lights. One of the wires had a bare spot that was grounding on metal. It took me a little bit of wire tracking to find it, but it solved the problem.
I traced the wiring diagram and found nothing shorting out on the frame. I did run a screwdriver across the soloenid and it cranked over and started. Could that be it? Thanks for all the help. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
