FNG in Michigan
First time user and dont really know if Im doing this whole thread thing correct or not
I live in Michigan and bought a 1989 1872 from a co worker about 5 yrs ago and now it seems as though that every time I turn around its another $200.00 - $400.00 to keep this thing going. I mow approx 4 acres every week and just love my Cub when its running. My latest issue is the PTO not wanting to stay engauged, Ive spent the $47.00 on a new switch and still no luck. any suggestions?????????????? |

Check for either a short in the safety switch (seat) or incorrect air gap in the pto clutch.

Clean your ground connections, and clean the connections on the reverse relay. If that didn't help, check out the relay with a multimeter.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
