Default K341AQS into a CC149

This engine just came up locally and it was removed from a Bolens tractor. If it's cheap enough to make rebuilding attractive, would this be a good upgrade for my 149. Essentially making the tractor a 169.

Any electrical issues to deal with? I'm guessing my drive shaft drive would fit on the crank. The front has no clutch as I direct drive a hydraulic pump there.

Any point to gaining the extra two HP. I did rebuild the K321 a couple years ago, but through a miscommunication the valve guides weren't done so it smokes a bit on start up. I don't think the rings seated properly either during break in. A tear down of the tractor is in the cards for my winter project and that would be a good time to do the switch, if it is recommended by those that know these things.

As always, thanks in advance for all the knowledge and advice even as diverse as it could be.

The only differences I can see, is the Crankshaft differences between Bolens and Cub Cadet, with regards to the PTO.

I haven’t looked at it yet, and won’t bother if I’m just making work for no reason. I’ll try and check that serial number for more info.

From that pic it appears that it has an internal starter and a solid state v/r.
So at minimum you would have some rewiring to do concerning starting and charging.
Definitely not a drop in swap.

Yup, you can see the Starter "Bump Out", in the shroud from the picture, in post #5.

Thanks for the info, I think I'll pass on this engine then. Probably a better plan to work with what I already have, since it doesn't lack power for what I've asked of it so far. When I have the engine out this winter, I'll do the valve guides and re-ring. Time to strip the tractor right down and take care of all the little things, rattles, wiring and paint anyway.

Again, I appreciate and am amazed at the depth of knowledge and willingness to share it! Some living Cub Encyclopedias on this site.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
