Once you have the measurements of what you need to buy then
you can order parts. The link Oak gave you has been real reliable for
me. Have ordered quite a few kits from them with no problems.
The Kit will have all the gaskets and seals you need. Any other parts
like Gov. gear etc you will have to order individually. Key is to enjoy the
ride, not get in a rush but have fun learning and come out with a great
tool. Have fun.

I rebuilt mine and had to use an .030” over piston. I sourced the master rebuild kit from Norman at isavetractors. While you’re in there, inspect the rod that operates your points. It rides on the cam and a groove can wear in the cam. Brian Miller at gardentractorpullingtips.com made my new points rod for me for $20. It’s shaped kinda like an upside down letter “T”. The end of the rod inside the engine now straddles the groove and it helps with keeping the points adjusted correctly. Brian and Norman are incredible assets to our hobby (addiction) to these old machines.

I'll add my recommendations for both of these sources. Very helpful. Norman has a bunch of youtube DYI videos that are great.

Norman to the rescue!

I ordered a standard piston/connecting rod kit from him, got it put together last night and almost ready to start it. Today, I finished connecting the choke and throttle cables, adjusted the governor, then let it turn over many times without gas and spark. Then, opened the sediment bowl, connected the coil wire, turned the key....... crank, crank, putt putt putt putt putt! I let it idle for a few minutes, then throttled it up slowly to WOT.... then slowed it down. Got on it, released the brake, moved the hydro lever..... nuthin'! What NOW?!?!?
Silly me.... I forgot that I had towed it from the garden to the shed.... had the hydro release lever in the tow position! Then, went to the garden and tilled a few rows.... all good!

Norman's videos are outstanding!

I need to replace the brittle wire going to the points..... maybe tomorrow?

So, did you have any machine work done before the rebuild?
Or just put it back together w/new piston and rings?
Static time it?

I have done the tractor won't move because the hydro release is on also.
More then once I am sad to admit. Glad you got it running.

No, no machine work, but measured and happy with the condition. New piston and rod kit, and timed. Purrs like a kitten. The points and coil were new not too long ago, and the actuator rod was in good shape.

Got to use the 123 in the garden today. This thing runs so nicely...... STILL my favorite method of tilling! Got some volunteer tomato plants moved, Roma flat green beans planted, as well as some cucumber, lettuce, acorn squash, and some butternut squash. Sometime soon I hope to get some okra and corn planted. Trying to start some cayenne peppers from some seed that I got from Mt. Vernon, also some banana peppers from seed.

I used this GT a couple of weeks ago to till the entire garden spot to get it ready to rest over winter. Probably 3 or 4 hours of continuous use. Did a fantastic job, as usual, and ran like a top.

It's great to hear about a happy ending.

You're fortunate those rod bits didn't hammer the block more but it looks like the rod was no longer connected to the crank, which prevented that!
