1864 CH18S Kohler engine
my old cub has recently developed a problem. for sometime i have had to run the tractor with the choke pulled out a small amount.first thought it was the carb, replaced that, then we thought the coil on one side,replaced both. i could pull the plug wire on one side and no apparent change in running. so now i"m thinking ,,,oh no hole in the piston,, i check compression,,, one side. what i think is the good side 145lbs. i check the problem side 145lbs. next my good friend says ,,lets check the dip stick ,sure enough pressure from the dip stick hole,,,we then check the base tube that ports into the top of carb,, lots of pressure.ok my friend says. that explains the choke issue. to much air going into the carb.have to close the choke..i have always kept this machine clean ,under cover and oil and filters changed. no oil leaks anywhere. this cub built in i think 1992 is clean. don"t want to give up on it. please help. hankster from maine

So with all you have done, is the original problem you described still
the issue? If so, seems like a fuel delivery issue to me. Do you have good flow from the tank to the pump? Do you have good flow on the outflow of the pump? Is the pulse line in good shape that pressures the pump? I am not entirely familiar with that engine so if it has a electric pump or something else forgive my ignorance on the pulse idea. One way or another sounds like fuel delivery. Let us know what you see there. Ken
