Shuts down
I have a cub 109 with a 14hp kohler engine in it. It was tuned up in the spring and has run fine since, till recently. Over the past few weeks about halfway through mowing it would just stall out. When it first started it would restart almost immediately when tried. Over the last couple of mows however it would take longer. This last weekend it stalled and would not restart that day nor the next morning. I first thought it might be bad gas but it has been running on new gas for the last two weeks. I replaced the filter, which was clean and gas was running though it. What do you think is next, do I need to pull the carburetor. This was removed and cleaned in the spring also. It just keeps turning over and over. I did have the points and coil replaced in the spring also. It was gone over pretty thoroughly then as I had purchased it from a co worker of mine who has collected a few of these cub cadet tractors and wanted to start downsizing. i love it but am getting frustrated in it not being dependable any more..

Upstate NY. I will get back to it on Saturday and let you know. That it what everyone is saying to me. I did not give it a thought because i had replaced the coil and points already in the spring but I could have gotten a junk part. I will let you know. Thanks for the info.

If you replaced coil and points, condenser is suspicious.
But you can do tests to be sure. Also check to be sure the condenser wire didn't break. Good luck.

I had a bad ignition switch cause similar problems one time.

My vote is also condenser trouble. About the cheapest part to try also.

Yeah, if it was left off the list before it would be a great 1st step. IDK why people seem to be afraid of condensers. It seems like the last thing anyone wants to touch. Nothing scary about them.

If you know it's getting fire and fuel, try starting the engine with the throttle closed, choke pulled all the way out. If it starts push the choke in. If it will idle but stalls when the throttle is opened your intake and exhaust valves may need grinding/lapping.
