I have been searching high and low on the internet for a picture of a KT17 with that style air filter, it looks like Gravely's might have had that but they were red, and the only other place I found one is on the cover of the Kohler service manual. Hopefully it is a replaced Series II, and they swapped over the tins from the series I. That'd be pretty awesome.

That is what my 782 has in it from the factory, Series 1. The filter is round.

Engine is a 1979. Is there a spec number on it? Spec number 24300 and higher is a Series II.

That's an early series 1 air filter housing. My Grandparents 782 had that housing.
I don't have the serial # of their tractor offhand but I'm thinking it was early production, definitely IH built.

So as I’m trying to figure out what I have, why does this engine have an Allen screw instead of a plug for the oil pressure switch. Ol’george and several other places say that’s a tell tale sign it’s a series 2. If the engine runs it runs until it won’t no more. But I would like to know what I have. I guess I could go mow a hill and if it makes a window it was a series 1?

Me thinks you have a series TWO Now if you want to sleep better, just screw a pressure gauge in that hole where the allen plug is, and start it up. Use Any gauge or fitting you might have around will work. about 5 pounds you have a series 1 Series 2 runs #50+++ (I've seen #80 cold) down to #15 hot. |
