Your Serial Number, as best as I could see 2050594Uxxxxxx = 784

Hard to imagine a 784 with a KT Series 1 original engine in it, since it is doubtful that anyone would replace an engine with a KT Series 1. Nonetheless, great find and nice pick up! Sounds like the person you bought it off of was a real Powerhouse to put the deck up on his shoulder. The KT Series 1 engine isn't bad if you aren't mowing on inclines. You did well Steve!!

So did they rebadge some 784 frames as 782? It only has one stick but the dash shows like my 1912 one lift and one hydraulic cylinder for the outlets. Weird but kind of neat that maybe I got a tweener.

The guy lifts for sure. When he carried the deck out I said so I think we can just push this up on the trailer. Rather than hook up the winch. he was a very nice guy though. I told him I’d take good care of it.

I’ve heard all about inclines with this engine. My whole property is an incline. So these last a long time in, say, Nebraska? how much incline, or any incline? My yard has a swail in the back and a sand mound for the septic system. That’s probably too steep.

The 784's were 782's with front hydraulic outlets, and with dual control levers. (I have one). They ALL used 782 decals.

Any Serial Number 726124 and below, had a KT-17 Series I. Starting at 726125, they used the Series II Engine.

Don't get all hung up on the series 1's not running on an angle.
They have an oil pump it is just not high pressure.
if properly maintained in the past,it will be fine, till it becomes worn out, as is anything.
Not changing the oil as needed and running them full throttle without being warmed up will put the rod through the block.
simple as that.
Now go easy starting it as it has set a while and the rods are dry.
They are 100% splash lubed!!!!!!!!!!!!
warm weather and light oil are your friend.

Thanks George. It's not running, yet. It does turn over, and it was a little slow at first but sped up. I changed the oil in it, it looked pretty clean, but I did it anyway. I'm thinking the old man kept the maintenance up on it.

Roland, that makes sense why I've never seen a "784" tractor. But what doesn't make sense is if it's a 784 serial number, I do not have front outlets, and the holes are not punched out in the frame that would indicate someone removed the outlets, and it's definitely a single stick.

The top gas tank bracket is off it, also the cooling shroud (s) over the muffler.
prop the choke cable off the exhaust elbow or it will burn the jacket.
Check the engine serial number, like you, I'm not used to seeing that air cleaner.
More like other brands or a replacement engine.
The pipe plug oil fill is usually a series 1, but it is possible to screw it in a
series 2
look close @ the plug where a oil pressure sensor would go.
Series 1's just had a expansion plug drove in as it is low pressure.
And it is smaller diameter as is the bossed area it is drilled into.
Series 2 had a threaded plug, usually allen head.
Tins with serial numbers are easily swapped.
Pix is series 1

I'll look closer at it tonight. I am at work now. There is definitely no plate to cover oil filter ports like my series II has. There is a serial number tag on the one side tin right on the top by the spark plug. I didn't take note what the oil pressure sensor has in the hole, going from memory I think it's an allen screw.

Thinking you been around the twins some, so you could see the the width of the bossed area, as well as if it has a driven in "cup plug" or a threaded plug.
you might have a series 2,
---- not all series 2's had provisions for an oil filter,
it depended on the manufactures requirements.
have a good day @ work.

With the tin off, I can see everything. It's nice and clean in there too. That would be pretty awesome if it's a series II. I have tins for the muffler and everything from my blown engine. So we are good to go there.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
