I took it to mean the starter continues to crank after the key is released to "run" position. |

Arrrgh// if it is "spinning" it is "cranking" whether the ignition fires or not.

Oh,
it's all so confusing, I don't know if I'm winding my arse or 'cratching my watch. Lets see, da little gear makes da big gear go round and round and da piston go up an down butt da sparky don spark sumtimes, till he jiggle the do-ma-hickey. Me thinks dat be da problim. |

Local terminology I suppose. We use the term crank to mean the engine fired up and is running, cranking to be the process of spinning, choking, belching smoke etc until it runs. For the engine to be spinning over by means of a starter, rope, hand crank, we just say spin it over. Its kind of like some guys on another group arguing about the upstairs of a barn called a loft or a mow--we just say upstairs.

Again, sorry for the confusion. I've been working a bunch and in the process of moving my 86 yr old Dad in with us.
It'll be this weekend before I'll be able to get to it.

You need to have 12 V to the primary of the coil while you're cranking. Sounds like you do not.
Get a new switch... and you should be good to go.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
