CC, I say go for it. You're probably better off using that instead of Hytran. I'm thinking you don't want the globs of moisture collecting on the bottom of the transmission. Let us know how it goes.

Used the TSC oil and a WIX filter (P/N 51410) in my CCC 1541 over a year ago.
No problems and I note, our 1st Cub which does it all. Thanks to Sam and Lew!

I have one question.

Have you priced a new transmission for the tractor? Just might put the $20 per quart for oil into perpective.

I would like to see a failed transmission from running the wrong fluid. I'm not saying it can't happen, I'm just saying I've never seen one.

OK Kids a 2140 is not a hydro, it's the infamous AGS/ Auto Gear System. It has a forward and a reverse wet clutch system. It also has a 6 speed gear transmission. Using something like Shell Rotella T 30weight is just fine in these. They don't even have a filter. Most of them get roached because the operators use them like a hydro rather than holding the pedal all the way down in forward or reverse. The clutch pack oil can be drained and refilled separately from the trans. It's a bit of a PITA, you need to pull the fender pan to get at the vent on top of the clutch pack. If it's slipping changing the oil won't help. BTDT. Tried to save one but ended up junking it anyway.

I run TSC or Wally World stuff in my Cubs. Yeah I know the Cub drill is to use Hy-Tran. My back ground is in the Quarry and Concrete biz. The Concrete trucks used the bigger brother Sundstrand pumps and motors that the Cubs use. It really sucks if the drum stops turning with a load of concrete in it, trust me the cost is a lot more than the most expensive Cub ever built. Never had one fail because of oil. We used Mobil 1310, 1310 is a 10 weight series 3 engine oil. Mobil 1310 is no longer available since Mobil merged with Exxon. Last time I talked with the old Mobil rep he told me that Rotella T would be a good replacement. Oh and we ran them for 20,000 hours before we pulled them for rebuild. I don't care what you use for oil as long as you change it at least every 2 years, keep it clean and use a Cub, Wix or NAPA filter. I'm done now.

Thanks all for the input. Since the Cub Cadet Drive System Oil is a Hydraulic-Transmission Synthetic Oil, I am going to use the Hy/Tran from TSC.

You are correct it is an AGS, I do mash it to the floor and there is no oil filter on the transmission.

Transmissions are no longer available unless you find someone hawking a used one. Worst case I have to do clutch work on it, but I can go through every gear just fine.

I plan on changing the fluid twice a season due to its age, just to keep it fresh.

I'd sooner have any water encapsulated by the Hy-Tran (that's one of it's features Ya know!!) in the bottom of the transmission than a transmission full of milk.

I purchased a Super last month from a fellow in IL who stated he had changed the fluids, (yeah, right) filter , maybe!. We opened it up over the weekend after sitting a week or so and about 1/2" of water poured out. and the rest of the remaining fluid came out looking like milk.

Other cubs I have been into, you could tell they had the "right stuff" in 'em as the oil was all oil and the globs of crap on the sides and bottom is where any moisture was instead of in the pumps, lines & cylinders and/or on gears and shafts.

Me, I'm sticking to Hy-Tran in my older Units and using the oil recommended in the newer machines like my GTX2154LE. Oil and grease is always cheaper than parts!

Hy-Tran is working awesome thus far. Seems a bit more responsive but that could be just the fresh lube, versus the wore out old black stuff.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
