Don't forget about the pto switch. Is the pto switch in the off(down) position? Tractor will not start if the pto switch is not in the off position. Looking at the wiring schematic for the 1872 the seat switch does not need to be closed for the tractor to start, just the brake pedal switch needs to be closed. It is possible that the pto switch is bad or it has bad connections. In the off position there needs to be continuity between terminals 1 and 2 at the pto switch. You might try wiggling the connection at the rear of the pto switch while having the key switch in the start position and see if the tractor will try to start. Pretty simple start circuit. Just get your voltmeter out and follow voltage through key switch, pto switch , brake switch to the small terminal on the start solenoid. Reference everything to chassis ground(-) and make sure the start solenoid is well grounded.

In order for the engine to roll over, two things need to happen.
* PTO Switch needs to be in the OFF position
* The LH Brake Pedal must be depressed.

Now, this is assuming that the above switches are correct, functioning correctly, and wired correctly.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
