Priming Beginnings
With the 149 totally disassembled, sand blasting done, battery box fixed and some general body work completed it was time to start painting.
A friend of mine and I decided to do our 149's together. Here is a pic of primer going on.

149..,
Very nice! thanks for the update on the status of your restorations. Man It would be nice to have a sand blaster! Is it big enough to get a frame in? The hoods and frames look great in primer Too. Regards, Chris

Sandblasting
Blasting was necessary on 149 - 498944. Someone had sprayed on several coats of red oxide primer and then brushed her down with some kind of rust inhibitor that turned to a rubbery substance. The tins looked a mess when I first rescued her.
I did the blasting outside in a make-shift booth to contain the media for recapture. Here is a pic I hooked 2 air compressors together in series to supply the air pressure to a modified blasting tank. Ran at about 90 psi. Blasting the frame took about 20 minutes. The mod to the tank consisted of drilling out the bottom fitting and re-tapping. The original orfice is so small and restricted it is prone to clogging. Blasting provides a great surface for priming but remember, it takes more primer. The surface area is actually increased when blasted.

Restoration Progress Continues
The white is now sprayed. Much better coverage than the yellow. As my friend says, "two to go, three to show."

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
