Picking up a Farmall cub and curious what issues I should look for?
I'm trading away my 8N ford and 72" finish mower for a Farmall cub with a 60" woods mower under it. The tractor is in very good shape. Has new belts for the mower and has been converted to 12V. Only issue is the float in the carb is stuck. Other then that it runs. Just curious what else I should be checking for. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

If you can you should do a compression test on the farmall, alot of times when a tractor has been converted to 12v its because its low on compression and 6v doesnt spin it fast enough to start it. The 8n has more HP and will be cheaper to repair in the long run, just saying.

I am as much of an IH guy as there is, but I would take the 8N over the Cub all things being same condition.

Congrats on the Cub.
We've got a 1956 with 60" mower, hydraulic lift. The wife uses it to cut our food plots. Check, and likely clean out the oil bath air cleaner, most have been neglected over the years. There hasn't been much of anything I've had to do to it, other than checking the oil, and filling it with gas. Ours is getting tired, but does what we expect it to do... Have fun with it, and post up some pictures when you can.

Thanks guys, my main reason for getting it besides being a cub/IH guy is that it's much easier to move from property to property from a mowing standpoint. I can haul it and my zero turn on the same trailer vs just the 8N and finish mower having to leave my zero turn behind.

How right you are! We still have the family 8N that still runs good! I still love the Farmall cubs, though.

Check over the castings for cracks or repairs, especially in the front where the axle mounts.

Amazing how things change quickly. I'm keeping the 8N, for awhile. Having vehicle issues so I'll deal with them. A better deal will present itself later.

You won't get an argument from me. Nothing against the IH, but these Fords live on and do their jobs well.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
