Purchased these little gems complete with decks. Future projects...but for now stuff I will have to mow around or push aside in the Cub house.

Yes, it is a 1710 with a Series2 KT 17. I don't see any windows in the block but the wire harness is fried. As ol' George says....the magic smoke is out of the wires.

Looks like a great scoop to me. And the tires are even aired up.
Which comes in handy if you have to move it around a lot.

With all the smoke from da wildfires, just duck tape da wires up an itill be jus fine

I had some vacation time this week and decided to play with some of Cubbies(in between the rain) The 582 seemed like the easiest to see if it runs. Put a battery in it and, to my surprise, it cranked over and started! However, it ran poorly. I checked the compression and found one side had no compression. Hmmm, broken rod, stuck valve or loose valve seat? Removed the head and found the intake valve seat had popped loose. Back in the day, this would have been warranted by Briggs....today not so much. I put the seat back in position and staked it (temporary fix at best). Put the head back on and restarted it. I drove it around checking the clutch operation and transmission. Both were in good working order. This may be a keeper!

Fried wiring could be a blessing if it meant that a tractor was retired from service early.

Replacing / repairing a harness is much cheaper and easier than replacing/repair an engine.
