Default More 1440 questions

Been working on a 1440 trying to find a deck for it. Bought one and i thought it was the wrong one now i am wondering if it has the wrong pto on it. Did some measuring on the pulleys and the one on the old deck is 5 1/8 (44inch deck model 318 ). The one i bought has a 5 inch ( 46 inch model 336 ) i wouldnt think a 1/8 difference would make a difference. So i checked the pulley on the pto its 7 1/2 and i seem to remember it was supposed to be 6 but not sure i am remembering right. If it is the wrong pto would one off a 1863 work on it or no? I have a good pto off of one ant it has a 6 inch pulley.

1440 has a Vanguard with a 1" shaft 1863 has Kohler CH with a 1-1/8" shaft. Sounds like someone put the wrong PTO on the 1440.

First, the correct PTO Clutch for the 1440 is 717-3375 (or 717-3389), both having a 6" Pulley Diameter.

The only two decks that were designed for the 1440 was:
* 190-318-100 44" Mower Deck
* 190-320-100 42" Mower Deck

Until you get the right parts and deck(s), you will have some problems.

If it was my tractor this is what I would put on it.

This is the later PTO style like they use on a 2180. If you decide to go this route you'll probably need a new spacer and anti rotation stop. I suggest you call Xtreme and discuss it with them so that they can furnish the proper parts.

We had this conversation, the 336 is for the older tractors with the small PTO.( https://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/...ad.php?t=52819 )
1440 had the large PTO. It will be better than what you have but it will still be running fast.

I ran a 336 deck on a 1641 (16 hp) for awhile. It cut okay as long as the grass wasn't tall/thick and you kept the engine wound up. It was also extremely noisy.

If you didn't keep the engine wound up or got in healthy grass, it would tend to lug the engine. I don't recommend you do it.

Also, check the PTO belt routing. One belt runs between the two front hangers and one runs to the left side of the left front hanger. If you put them both inside, the belt will rub on the hanger and help stall the engine.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
