Default 1641 rebirth

I picked this 1641 recently. After repairing some cracks in the grill mounts, I removed the intake and carb to clean, (to take care of the surging engine), and replaced the leaking front tires. Some fresh paint, and I have a great running 650hr Cyclops.

I used fiber glass cloth and 2 part epoxy. Things don't stick to the plastic so well, so I drilled randomly placed holes, (you can see a few in the pictures), then applied the epoxy heavy enough to fill holes. I also "allowed" the cloth to touch itself as much as possible through the openings, (oh I felt so dirty typing that!)! By wrapping the cloth "around" the mounting tabs it greatly strengthened the mounts. Also the holes filled with epoxy will help bolster the repaired area. I didn't get after pics, but I'll pull the side covers off when I mow next and get some.

I used Plastaid to repair some of the Cadet plastic. It was recommended on here by others. It seems like good stuff. I can tell there's a good chemical bond occurring, because it gets really hot while it's curing.

That is one sweet looking machine. If it were mine, I'd spring for a new grill while its still available (hopefully).

I’ve not been on too much of late, but wanted to update a little. I removed and freshened up the 48” deck and put the 1641 in storage. I am one of the GM employees losing my job in Lordstown. I am most likely going to be going up to Tonawanda NY, (Buffalo), and will b staying in an apartment until retirement so no grass cutting. No tractors. No garage. 😞

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
