My son will probably like it too much to part out. He is always pointing out green ones for sale to me. I keep asking him if he is color blind

Ha! LOL...I just parted out the JD 214 I picked up recently. I was comparing it to one of my Quietlines thinking this isn't such a bad tractor. Well, it isn't...but it is NOT an IH Cub Cadet Quietline! The Cubs are built much stronger and heavier. The 312 is a shaft drive tractor that uses the a very similar Sundstrand hydro but it is still coupled to a Peerless rear end. Like Alvy said, the mower decks turn to Swiss cheese. You can find replacement decks out there but they are expensive. The 312 is a little newer than the 129 but they are both 1970s vintage. Good luck have fun!

Used to work on the Deere's quite a bit back in the 80's.. two places IH had them beat.. the decks were much heavier on the IH.. We constantly replaced Deere deck shells when they were run in sandy yards.. the other issue was the fiberglass hood.. people tended to bump things with them.. didn't take much to shatter one.. other than that they were good machines

Thanks for responding Beth, i knew you would I seem to have gotten crickets from the coop meister. Anyway, you’re exactly right, which is why I said “almost”. Well, maybe almost was too strong of a word but they engineered a few things with their models that were above the rest. Of course the cubs are our favorite but the greenies are ok in my book too.

The Quietline brochure has a statement that claims it is the "Cadillac" of garden tractors. I thought that was a bold and somewhat arrogant statement...other than the IH engine mounts I would definitely agree with that claim. I worked on the "greenies" for many years and found the modern ones are very good machines and waaaay better than any current MTD crap.

Okay,

So I now own the green one. But there's a but.
He got it to my house. I inspected a little futher. Upon final inspection I found a couple things I didn't like. I started to call off the deal. I think I convinced him he really didn't need either tractor. So now I have them both. My wallet is lighter by a bean and a half but that's how it goes...

Nice tractor, but I see one problem. It's the wrong color.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
