Default 108 1650
I've got a friend who took a complete 108 apart and put the rear end in a 1650. So the leftover pieces he said I can have. A complete 108 minus transaxle and a cast hydro transaxle out of a 1650. Can I put them together and have something usable for ground engaging equipment when I'm done?

I would find a manual transmission and put it in. There are pretty easy to find and a gear drive will be much better for using ground engaging equipment.

What rear ends will fit? It seems to be hard to find a manual transaxle around here. Lot of pullers in the area. I could also lay my hands on a hydro out of a 147.

Any cast iron 3 speed will bolt right in.

Yes, but not all will have the correct shifter on them to get up through the fenders. There are 4 distinct gear shift levers for IH machines. The O, 70, 100, 71, 72, 73 all used one. The 1X2 and the 1X4 used another. The 1X6 used a different one, then they changed it again for the wide frame tractors and used that one to the end. Then the aluminum rear gear drives used a different one yet, so I guess there are 5.

So, the gearshift would have to be from a 1X8 through the early 82 series for it to work with the fenders without mods.
