It sure is hard to have to put a pet down. But neat about getting the two tractors. Good for you for thinking of your father in law.

Sorry for the loss of your pet. Always hard to loose a furry companion. Great find on the two cubs. They both look to be in good shape. The 1862 will make a great mowing tractor for your FIL. I had one a number of years ago before I bought my first 1872 Super and the wife really liked. She would not use the 1872 because she said it was to big. Show us some progress pics when you start working on them.

That plan didn’t work out. I got the magnum running (cleaned carb, petcocks, and the fuel pump was bad... and after I got it running I detected a vibration right away so I shut her down. I pulled the tunnel cover and found the driveshaft held together at the rear CV joint by a hose clamp and a washer and wrapped in electrical tape, and it’s barely hanging on to the charge pump shaft. That could have been a disaster for the twig and berries as well as everything else under the tractor.

Need pics! We really need to start a "Previous Owner Repair" thread.

The plumbing isn’t original either.

Yes, yes it is....

John Hall, that's a great idea. That would probably be a head slapper entertaining thread.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
