Default Part II Wheel Bearings Install

Hi again.
Thanks to all of you you passed on great info on the install. I am grateful even to those who ended up arguing.
There were ball bearings all over the place and a lot of graphite looking grease everwhere.
I cleaned it out. Put the new ones in dry.
The bearings I bought were closed on both sides. Got them from a member who linked them. Thank you. They went in well.

Now that I have installed the bearings how tight should the bolt be.
I put it in pretty hard and the wheel is a bit stiff. Should it be in tight and wait for the process to loosen it up or back off the bolt a bit.
Thanks.
Mike

The bolt with washer should bottom out tight. If you did that and the wheel does not move well the bearings may not be seated completely. Pull wheel off and give it another look

Thank you. They are seated correctly. The wheels move with just a bit of drag.

The wheel shouldn't drag.
Check the spindle. Probably a burr on the inside (closest to the tractor) on the spindle that is keeping the wheel bearing from going all the way on.

You don't want a ball bearing side loaded or it will eat it up.

Ok, I got it.

I will pull the wheels and work on the spindle.

I did not read the other thread so maybe it was already mentioned.......

But also check to see if some P.O. added a washer to the spindle before anything else is installed on spindle.

Some bearings that are not OEM tend to not work well, some do, some do not. Putting a small shim washer smaller than the spindle dia. on the end may help.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
