Speed question
Long story short, don't worry about why because the answers given will help form some ideas about some new projects in the garage. I'm looking to see how I can get more speed out of my cub cadet without changing anything with the engine(because I am not sure on the size of the engine yet). So focusing on the rear end, whether it be a hydro or not on any of thee IH cubs, what can be done? Is there a way to adjust any ratios or a different pulley that can be bought or swapped out? Any insight would be helpful. I'm looking to go about 35/40 mph or possibly more, is this possibly and how would the rear ends hold up or should I be looking for something else?

They aren't go-carts.
You can speed them up. |

I am "assuming", that your inquiry is based upon the 127 that is listed in your Signature. With a direct drive Sundstrand Hydro unit and fixed mechanical linkages, the only thing I can think of is more engine RPM's (but not to exceed the Maximum 3,600 RPM's as stated by Kohler).

So.. Are you looking to do this?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=to8wh7LScXI Or this?? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtIYSeQd4gE Either way. So heavily modified that they are really no longer "tractors" or "lawn mowers" The ones with cars engines are likely using shortened car rears. Many of The others in second video are using smaller tractor type rears with different size pulleys and tire sizes I imagine. Found these guys easily on youtube. You can probably search for the how to video as well. I doubt to many guys here will assist in this.

Yeah the second link would be better, I'm looking for a way to increase the rpms to increase speed, almost like a gas pedal in a car. Possibly the manual read ends would be better than the hydros. I would like to almost have a racing mower but would like to keep the drive shaft. Again just looking for some possible ideas. If this can't be done I'll look else where. If anyone else knows or a higher speed rear end than can be hooked to a horizonalt shaft engine, either Koehler or vanguard it would be helpful. I would like to stay with these nice heavy cub cadet rear end if possible. With a rev kit and other goodies, I'll be getting an easy 6000 rpms, if not more.

There are places on-line selling different gear sets. overdrives, underdrives...You should really be talking to someone in one of the pulling type forums. They have the math down already. Could be costly to just start trying methods they have surely already tried.

They are combo GPU/AIRSTART units. They can provide a/c or d/c power or compressed air for direct turbine air starting.. Cool units but they are scary to start up sometimes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfR8v3SyBBw

When you find out the horsepower needed to go 30MPH, you will be looking at a different engine.
My Polaris ATV, which weighs half or less of the weight of a Cub Cadet, and has 22 horsepower, struggles to get over 35MPH. Even tire pressure will need to be changed. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
